This role focuses on optimizing the power efficiency of Apple's cellular modems by analyzing communication protocols, applying SoC power management techniques, and leveraging AI/ML for predictive modeling and optimization. The primary deliverable is improved power performance in the modem's serving infrastructure.

What you'd actually do

  1. Analyze and optimize cellular communication protocols (5G NR, LTE, IMS) to minimize their impact on system power consumption.
  2. Design and execute power measurement methodologies using lab equipment, including Keysight and CMW, to evaluate and validate system power behavior.
  3. Apply SoC power management techniques — including clock gating, power domain configuration, and low-power sleep state tuning — to improve overall system efficiency.
  4. Conduct power vs. performance trade-off studies to drive optimizations that improve system efficiency and extend battery life.
  5. Leverage Machine Learning (ML) and AI techniques for predictive power modeling, anomaly detection, and dynamic power optimization.

Skills

Required

  • Bachelors and/or Masters degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering or related field.
  • 3 - 5+ years of industry experience in power modeling, power analysis, or systems engineering.
  • Direct experience optimizing power for baseband processors or RF transceivers.
  • Deep understanding of cellular 3GPP standards relating to 5G NR and LTE, with demonstrated experience with higher-layer protocols such as TCP/IP.
