Cursor is seeking a Motion Designer to help evolve its brand identity and create scalable motion systems across product, marketing, and community. This foundational role involves owning motion work end-to-end, from concept to execution, for various formats including product launches, campaigns, and digital content. The ideal candidate will have a strong portfolio demonstrating motion craft, typography, and strategic thinking, with experience in technical or developer-focused products. Responsibilities include collaborating with product designers and external partners, optimizing motion workflows, and ensuring consistency across the user experience. The role emphasizes fast iteration and ownership in a high-growth, fast-paced environment.

What you'd actually do

  1. Evolve Cursor’s motion identity and create scalable systems across product, marketing, and community
  2. Own motion work end-to-end — from narrative, storyboards and prototyping through final execution across product launches, campaigns, digital, film, content, and events
  3. Design for multiple audiences — from experienced developers to designers exploring code for the first time
  4. Develop and optimize motion workflows, including the integration of new tools to improve efficiency and scalability
  5. Collaborate with product designers to ensure motion consistency across the user experience

Skills

Required

  • Portfolio demonstrating strong motion craft, typography, and strategic thinking across formats — from digital campaigns to motion systems and events
  • Experience creating engaging product launches and UI animation for software products
  • Strong attention to pacing, composition, typography, and sound
  • Strong art direction skills, with the ability to set a clear creative bar and guide external creative partners
  • Ability to articulate design decisions and rally teams around a creative vision
  • Comfortable working in fast-paced, high-growth environments with ambiguity and complexity
  • Ambitious, opinionated, and comfortable taking ownership to push work forward

Nice to have

  • Experience building or evolving motion identities for technical products, developer-focused companies, or culturally defining brands
  • Experience working at both fast-paced startups and agencies
  • Background in 3D or illustration
