Mts Systems Design Engineer

AMD AMD · Semiconductors · Austin, TX · Engineering

This role is for an MTS Systems Design Engineer at AMD, focusing on researching, designing, developing, and testing electronic components and systems for semiconductor manufacturing. The role involves leading thermal, power, and performance architecture for premium products, driving OEM system customization, and integrating requirements for internal design and product characterization. The engineer will interface with OEM/ODM customer teams, identify and close competitive gaps in power, performance, and thermal features, and collaborate with SOC Architects to set system power and performance objectives. Responsibilities include supporting system performance/watt assessments, collaborating across design and architecture teams, and enabling/optimizing power management for client APU/CPU products. The role requires a Bachelor's degree in a related engineering field and four years of experience in designing/developing/testing thermal solutions, hardware verification, power management analysis, scripting, performance/power modeling, power/performance measurement, and system setup. One year of experience in technical documentation is also required.

What you'd actually do

  1. Lead thermal, power, and performance architecture and development of select “premium” products to drive OEM system customization and optimization of internally developed system level features and operation.
  2. Drive and communicate progress to plans and performance objectives with both AMD leadership team and OEM customer teams.
  3. Define and integrate requirements for internal design, performance, and product characterization efforts as it relates to OEM system and commercial customer needs.
  4. Directly interface with OEM/ODM customer thermal, mechanical, power and performance design teams, providing product projections, validation support, design assistance and product training
  5. Identify and drive closure to competitive gaps in power, performance, and thermal features, capabilities, process, and tools in collaboration with advance teams on select premium product engagements.
