This role focuses on network communications, specifically voice over IP (VoIP) systems, for defense applications. Responsibilities include designing, configuring, implementing, and supporting VoIP installations, resolving voice network issues, managing network hardware, and ensuring system reliability and availability. The role requires a Secret security clearance and experience with Cisco unified communications solutions, routing protocols, and network security best practices. Scripting experience in languages like Python is beneficial.

What you'd actually do

  1. Provide technical support to clients, respond to their requests promptly by prioritizing and allocating them, monitor and resolve voice network issues, design, configure, implement, and provide support for VoIP installations whenever the need arises, evaluate wiring problems and fix them, assess and state solutions for voice communication issues, plan and suggest systems management software and network hardware, customize network design and architecture so that it ensures compliance and capacity planning, take ownership for the entire configuration, make sure maintenance of routers, switches, and other devices in place for the voice systems, and ensure that voice services are reliable, scalable, and available.
  2. Identifying and resolving issues with voice communication systems, including audio and video equipment, test setups, and electronic components.
  3. Working with other engineers to integrate and test new voice communication systems, ensuring they meet specifications.
  4. Maintaining and supporting the hardware and software components of voice communication systems, including servers, routers, and related devices.
  5. Creating and maintaining documentation for voice communication systems, including schematics, drawings, and reports on testing and maintenance activities.

Skills

Required

  • Associate's degree and 6 years of related experience, or Bachelor’s degree and 5 years of related experience, or Master's degree and 3 years of related experience; a High School diploma or equivalent and 10 years of related experience may be considered in lieu of a completed degree.
  • Active DoD Secret level security clearance
  • Ability to obtain Special Access Programs (SAP)
  • Current CompTIA Security Plus (or higher) certification
  • Current Cisco Certified Network Associate Voice (or higher) certification
  • Experience designing, installing, and troubleshooting Cisco voice and unified communications solutions.
  • Experience with managing routing protocols over Enterprise level environments.
  • Experience with configuring, installing, and maintaining network hardware like Cisco Unified Communications Manager (CUCM) and Call Manager Express (CME).
  • Knowledge on configuring, installing, and maintaining encryption devices (TACLANES) as well as operating General Dynamic’s GEM One and/or GEM X Enterprise Encryptor Management server.
  • Experience with implementing security best practices to include management of Cisco Identity Services Engine (ICE) and Cisco Terminal Access Controller Access-Control System Plus (TACACS+).
  • Experience using test tools and equipment to identify the root cause of issues on the clients/organization’s business such as Wireshark, Opnet, SolarWinds, etc.
  • Maintain accurate records of trouble and fixing efforts.

Nice to have

  • Knowledge of different VoIP protocols, SIP, RTP, MGCP, etc.
  • Scripting experience in languages, such as Perl, Javascript, Python, etc.
