Network Engineer II

This role is for a Network Engineer II at Expedia Group, focusing on designing, implementing, and operating network solutions for platforms and services. What you'd actually do

  1. Design, implement, and operate network solutions that support Expedia Group’s platforms and services, ensuring reliability, scalability, and security across data centers and cloud environments.
  2. Configure, maintain, and troubleshoot routing, switching, load balancing, and connectivity services, contributing to low-level design, API integration points, and data modeling for network-related services and tooling.
  3. Collaborate with engineering, security, and operations teams to deliver network capabilities for new and existing products, applying infrastructure-as-code and automation practices where supported by team standards.
  4. Monitor network performance, identify and resolve incidents and problems within your owned services, and contribute to operational runbooks, documentation, and continuous improvement of availability and latency.
  5. Safely integrate and operate AI/ML-enabled solutions that improve outcomes, including familiarity with AI-driven systems, tools, or workflows and applying AI/ML concepts to real world products.

Skills

Required

  • Experience deploying and supporting production networks in team environments.
  • Experience operating network services in public or hybrid cloud infrastructures.
  • Hands-on configuration of enterprise or service provider–grade networking hardware.
  • Basic to intermediate knowledge of routing, switching, and core protocols (e.g., BGP, OSPF, VLANs, VPNs, firewalls, DNS, load balancers).
  • Understanding of physical and virtual networking.
  • Experience configuring and operating cloud IaaS networking (AWS, Azure, or GCP).
  • Familiarity with network automation, APIs, and telemetry models (e.g., SNMP, NetFlow, Netconf/Restconf, gRPC).
  • Basic proficiency in scripting or programming for automation.
  • Performs day-to-day network operations for LAN/WAN environments.
  • Able to troubleshoot routine issues, follow standard procedures, and escalate when needed.

Nice to have

  • Technical degree and relevant certifications preferred (e.g., CCNA/CCNP, AWS Associate).
  • Experience supporting or contributing to network or infrastructure solutions in cloud or hybrid environments.
  • Demonstrates understanding of system and technology integration and the role of APIs, tools, and processes in integrated solutions.
  • Assists with issue and incident investigations, including gathering, documenting, and analyzing relevant data.
  • Experience supporting or participating in testing, validation, and quality inspections for infrastructure or network services.
  • Ability to collaborate with stakeholders and coordinate input across teams when addressing technical issues.
  • Understands organizational policies and standardization practices, including when variations are required.
  • Supports implementation of solutions that align people, process, and technology.
  • Maintains curiosity about emerging technologies, trends, and best practices, and actively expands knowledge of company infrastructure and user requirements.
