Network Engineer, Principal Specialist at RTX responsible for the installation, maintenance, support, and monitoring of classified network infrastructure. Requires an active US DoD Secret Clearance and experience with Cisco routers, switches, firewalls, and intrusion detection systems.

What you'd actually do

  1. Maintains smooth operation of voice and data networks. Plans, evaluates, coordinates, and performs installation and/or reconfiguration of hardware and software elements of data and/or voice communication network.
  2. Develop technical expertise in all areas of voice and data networks hardware and software interconnection and interfacing, such as switches, routers, firewalls, authentication servers, encryptors etc.
  3. Maintains network management software platforms.
  4. Propose solutions to management to ensure all communications requirements based on future needs and current usage, configuring such solutions to optimize cost savings aligning with future requirements factoring in redundancy and required network uptime.
  5. Prepares or ensures that appropriate network documentation exists, including operational instructions, technical diagrams, and other documentation. Where no documentation exists, new documentation will be created.

Skills

Required

  • University Degree or equivalent experience and minimum 5 years prior relevant experience, or An Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 3 years' experience
  • Experience with configuration and troubleshooting of Cisco routers, switches, firewalls, and intrusion detection systems, including software upgrades.
  • Experience with current cabling and fiber standards.
  • Active and transferable U.S. government issued US DoD Secret security clearance is required prior to start date. U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance

Nice to have

  • Willingness and availability to travel domestically as needed.
  • Experience with access control list, security posture, and vendor best practices.
  • Experience with Visio diagramming and design capabilities.
  • Knowledge of configuration and troubleshooting of encryption devices.
  • Effective customer service skills, including oral and written communications.
  • Experience with platforms such as IP telephony, NTP servers, GemOne, and SolarWinds.
  • Certifications in Security+ within 6 months and Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) is highly desired within a year.
  • Ability to work under time constraints.
  • Experience with classified computing, STIG compliance, and network refreshes.
