Networks Solution Engineer

RTX RTX · Aerospace · warminster, Wiltshire, United Kingdom · Engineering

This role is for a Networks Solution Engineer focused on designing, deploying, and maintaining secure and scalable network infrastructure for the OMNIA® Training team, which redefines the British Army's collective training. The engineer will work with on-premise, cloud, and hybrid environments, ensuring network performance for training systems, and supporting mobile/RF communications. The role requires collaboration with engineering and simulation teams, documentation, and evaluation of new networking technologies. Security clearance is required.

What you'd actually do

  1. Design, deploy, and maintain secure, scalable network infrastructure across on-premise, cloud, and hybrid environments.
  2. Ensure network architectures meet latency, reliability, throughput, and availability requirements for Live, Virtual, and Constructive training systems.
  3. Perform network traffic analysis, capacity planning, and bandwidth optimisation to maintain performance targets.
  4. Implement and support resilient network solutions, including redundancy and failover mechanisms for mission-critical operations.
  5. Configure, deploy, and monitor routing, switching, firewall, VPN, and intrusion detection systems in line with security policies.

  • Deep technical expertise in 4G/LTE, 5G, and RF communications technologies.
  • Strong background in military or mission-critical communications systems, including operational deployment and sustainment.
  • Experience implementing and supporting secure, high-availability network architectures across physical, hybrid, and cloud-integrated environments.
  • Strong understanding of network security principles, including segmentation, encryption, firewalling, and secure remote access.
  • Experience in network performance monitoring, traffic analysis, and fault diagnosis.
  • Experience supporting deployable or tactical networking solutions, including mobile edge computing, mesh networking, or tactical cloud environments.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively across engineering, operations, and training teams, providing technical leadership where required.
  • Excellent analytical problem-solving capability and clear stakeholder communication.
  • Security cleared or ability to obtain (SC or above)

Nice to have

  • Familiarity with Live, Virtual, and Constructive (LVC) military training systems, including Training Engagement Systems (TES).
  • Experience integrating network solutions with simulation, training, or distributed exercise platforms.
  • Knowledge of defence communications
