Numerical Control Programmer (metals)

Boeing Boeing · Aerospace · Hazelwood, MO

This role involves programming and implementing programming methods for aerospace part fabrication, focusing on automation systems for 3- and 5-axis machining of metallic and composite parts. Responsibilities include developing numerical control programs using CAD/CAM software (NX, CATIA V5), validating Machine Control Data (MCD), and providing technical support for production processes.

What you'd actually do

  1. Develop and author reliable numerical control programs for a range of automated equipment and processes
  2. Create offline programs using NX, CATIA V5 and compatible programming and simulation software
  3. Responsible for providing validated Machine Control Data (MCD) to produce production components meeting design, quality and build plan requirements
  4. Provides numerical control, machining and programming technical experience
  5. Be involved in testing and proving out new N/C programs to achieve a conforming build

Skills

Required

  • AS or AA degree (or trade school equivalent) in Machine Tool Technology or related discipline
  • 8 or more years working as an NC Programmer
  • 3 or more years of GD&T Fundamentals
  • Experience with CAD / CAM tools and systems
  • Basic knowledge of manufacturing, methods, fabrication processes (e.g., forming, stamping, machining, heat treatment, machines/machine tools, cutting tools and fluids, N/C programming, instrumentation, data acquisition and control systems)

Nice to have

  • NX, CATIA V5 and Vericut are highly preferred
  • Ability to select the best method of producing parts, tools or assemblies. Primary materials are aluminum, titanium, steels and composites
  • Experience with simulation software, such as Vericut, to create machine simulations that evaluate machine motion and tooling concepts.
  • Experience programming multi-axis metallic parts and/or assemblies highly preferred but not required.
  • Complete ability to utilize or create source geometry for generation of Machine Control Data (MCD)
