Optical Design and Analysis Engineer (experienced or Lead)

This role focuses on the design, analysis, and testing of optical systems and assemblies for defense applications, requiring expertise in optical design software and scientific programming languages for modeling and data analysis.

What you'd actually do

  1. Develop subsystem architecture and designs of optical systems, assemblies, components, etc. to be integrated into higher level systems and platforms
  2. Define optical systems, assemblies, components, etc. performance and tolerance requirements
  3. Perform trade studies, modeling, simulation and other forms of analysis to predict components, interconnects and system performance and to optimize design around established requirements
  4. Define and conduct tests of various kinds to validate performance of designs to requirements
  5. Analyze data to validate designs of complex optical systems, components, etc.

Skills

Required

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering (with a focus in Electrical, Mechanical or Aeronautical), Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry or non-US equivalent qualifications directly related to the work statement
  • 5+ years of experience in design and/or modeling electro-optical systems such as Zemax OpticStudio, Code V, or similar
  • 5+ years of experience using scientific programming languages (i.e. python, MATLAB, etc.) for data analysis and/or modeling

Nice to have

  • Bachelor of Science degree in optical, electrical engineering or physics
  • Experience working with adaptive optics systems
  • Experience with data processing and image analysis techniques
  • Experience designing and integrating complex optical systems

What the JD emphasized
