Snowflake is seeking a Patent Analyst to manage and grow their patent portfolio within the IP Legal team. This role involves working with engineering teams to identify patentable inventions, conducting prior art searches, managing patent prosecution with outside counsel, and analyzing technical and competitive information. The position emphasizes leveraging and developing internal AI tools to streamline legal workflows and requires a strong understanding of software, cloud technologies, data warehousing, analytics, and AI.

What you'd actually do

  1. Work with engineering teams and other members of the IP Legal team to harvest invention disclosures, including conducting invention mining workshops to uncover and capture new patentable ideas.
  2. Conduct prior art searches and patent analysis to determine patentability.
  3. Review patent application drafts from outside counsel and manage patent prosecution activities to ensure alignment with Snowflake’s patent strategy and budgetary requirements.
  4. Assist in managing the patent portfolio by supporting strategic decision-making and providing guidance on patent matters.
  5. Analyze patent claims, patent file histories, and competitive intelligence documentation.

Skills

Required

  • 3+ years of relevant experience in invention harvesting, patent prosecution and drafting
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field
  • Strong understanding of software and software development, in particular enterprise cloud technologies, data warehousing, analytics, and artificial intelligence
  • Proven ability to develop trusted relationships with inventors to enhance patent harvesting activities
  • Ability to explain complicated concepts in simple terms to non-subject matter experts within the IP team and other legal groups
  • Highly organized with attention to detail and the ability to own and prioritize projects to meet deadlines

Nice to have

  • Registered Patent Agent (in India) and/or USPTO Registration
  • A strong interest in—and ideally experience with—developing and using emerging AI tools to improve legal operations
  • A good sense of humor!
