Patent Docket Specialist

This role provides operational support to the Intellectual Property (IP) organization, focusing on accurately and timely entering patent prosecution activities into the docketing system. Responsibilities include monitoring communications, creating and maintaining case records, entering deadlines, electronically filing documentation, and generating reports from the docketing system. The position requires a strong understanding of US and international patent law and procedure, advanced proficiency with docketing systems and patent office databases, and excellent attention to detail.

What you'd actually do

  1. Review, interpret, and monitor all incoming communications from U.S., PCT and International Patent Offices as well as internal docketing email and correspondence
  2. Accurately create and maintain patent and disclosure case records within the docketing system
  3. Accurately enter prosecution deadlines into docketing system in accordance with established procedures
  4. Electronically file relevant case-related documentation into document management system in accordance with established procedures
  5. Generate dockets and assist attorneys, paralegals, and other support staff in the preparation of reports from the docketing system

What the JD emphasized

  • Minimum of three (3) years of patent docketing experience
  • Substantive knowledge of US and foreign patent prosecution principles, strategies, and technology
  • Advanced Proficiency with docketing systems and U.S. and international Patent and Trademark Office databases including USPTO’s Private PAIR & EPAS
  • Extraordinary accuracy and attention to detail in analysis and communications
