Joby Aviation is seeking a People Team Specialist to support the Employee Relations and Compliance team, focusing on new hire onboarding and compliance functions. The role involves coordinating orientation, managing documentation, processing pre-employment requirements, supporting audits, and staying updated on regulations.

What you'd actually do

  1. Create a positive and welcoming experience for all new hires by coordinating and leading new hire orientation sessions
  2. Serve as a primary point of contact for incoming employees, responding to questions and requests for information prior to their start date
  3. Ensure all new hire documentation and information is accurate, complete, and submitted on time
  4. Coordinate and process pre-employment requirements, including background checks and drug & alcohol testing
  5. Generate and maintain reports from various HR systems for the Employee Relations and Compliance team and other People teams as needed

Skills

Required

  • 2+ years of experience in People Operations, HR Compliance, or a related field
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build effective working relationships
  • Demonstrated work ethic with a proactive, service-oriented mindset
  • Excellent judgment and discretion when handling sensitive employee information
  • Comfortable working cross-functionally with Legal, Safety, Facilities, and Payroll teams
  • Proficiency with DocuSign, HRIS systems, and Microsoft Office or Google Workspace
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple time-sensitive workstreams
  • Ability to work onsite at least 4 days per week, including Mondays

Nice to have

  • Experience working with HR systems, tools, or processes
  • Background in human resources, compliance, or a related field
  • Experience working in a startup environment
  • Experience building dashboards with Claude Code, Google Scripts, or via other programs
  • Experience with workers' compensation audits
  • Knowledge of California, New York and or Ohio-specific employment compliance requirements
  • Familiarity with DOT regulations (Part 135 or similar)
