Policy Specialist, Global Policy and Standards

This role focuses on developing and implementing policies for Google's products, particularly concerning trust and safety, abuse risks, and responsible growth. It involves advising internal teams, engaging with subject matter experts, and translating complex problems into scalable solutions and precise standards. The role requires balancing legal/regulatory requirements with user needs and upholding company values, with a focus on user safety, product quality, and privacy. While AI/LLM systems are mentioned as a preferred qualification for understanding, the core function is policy and risk management, not direct AI/ML development.

What you'd actually do

  1. Anticipate policy issues facing product and technology platforms and develop policies and enforcement recommendations on how to address them.
  2. Lead, develop, and implement policies for Google products with a view towards user safety, product quality, and privacy.
  3. Influence product decisions and prioritization and improve user experience for policy-related issues through collaboration with Product Managers, Engineers, and other Trust and Safety (T&S) teams.
  4. Work with sensitive content or situations and remain prepared for exposure to graphic, controversial, or upsetting topics or content.
  5. Drive awareness and understanding of our product policies within Google and across our user base through research to set industry standards.
