Shield AI Shield AI · Defense · Dallas, TX +2 · X-BAT Engineering - Avionics

The role is for a Senior Staff Thermal Engineer focused on designing and analyzing thermal management systems for unmanned aerial vehicle avionics, including custom power electronics. It involves leading thermal analysis, developing models using CFD tools, providing technical leadership in trade studies, and mentoring junior engineers. The position requires expertise in heat transfer, fluid mechanics, and cooling solutions for aerospace applications.

What you'd actually do

  1. Own thermal analysis and design efforts for unmanned aerial vehicle avionics including custom power electronics
  2. Develop and validate analytical, numerical, and computational models for heat transfer and fluid flow using hand calculations and CFD tools such as FloEFD
  3. Provide technical leadership in trade studies, system architecture decisions, and risk assessments
  4. Lead cross-functional teams designing power electronic circuits and environmental enclosures. Provide design requirements that impact circuit part selection, board layout, material selection, and other design aspects
  5. Drive test planning, instrumentation, and data analysis to correlate models with experimental results
