Power Infrastructure Delivery Technical Program Manager

Google Google · Big Tech · San Francisco, CA +3

Technical Program Manager for Google's Power Infrastructure Delivery, responsible for the end-to-end lifecycle of power solutions (substations, BESS) for global data centers. This role involves technical and strategic leadership, stakeholder management, and ensuring compliance with complex regulatory frameworks (NERC, FERC). The role also requires integrating advanced power technologies to meet evolving demands, with a focus on resilience and adaptability.

What you'd actually do

  1. Lead the delivery lifecycle for critical power infrastructure, including substations and BESS, from preliminary due diligence and design through construction and operational handover.
  2. Define and enforce technical criteria for power quality and load smoothing, ensuring third-party infrastructure meets service level objectives (SLOs) for complex machine learning loads.
  3. Collaborate cross-functionally with Energy, Land Services, and Finance teams to drive long-term utility planning and mitigate technical, commercial, and delivery risks.
  4. Manage executive-level stakeholder relationships with external utilities and regulatory bodies to ensure project adherence to national codes (e.g., National Electrical Code (NEC), NERC, FERC) and secure vital interconnection agreements.

Skills

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, a related quantitative field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 8 years of experience in technical program or project management within the energy, utility, or power infrastructure industry.
  • 7 years of experience leading to the delivery of electrical infrastructure, such as substations, transmission and distribution, or utility projects.
  • 5 years of experience navigating energy regulatory frameworks and compliance standards (e.g., NERC, FERC, NEC, or NESC).
  • 5 years of experience in hybrid infrastructure environments (HV-MV-LV), Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), power generation and smarter grid solutions.

Nice to have

  • Licensed or Chartered Professional Engineer (PE) status or an equivalent professional engineering certification.
  • 8 years of experience managing cross-functional or cross-team projects.
  • Experience in the design, commissioning, or operation of industrial power generation facilities (>10MW) and related electrical generator principles.
  • Track record managing large-scale third-party developers and external utility partners to secure connection agreements and regulatory approvals.
  • Knowledge of data center topologies and the ability to mitigate supply chain constraints through predictive modeling and risk-adjusted delivery milestones.
