Mechanical Engineer to support design & development of the Joby S4 electric vertical take-off and landing vehicle, focusing on powertrain and electronics battery systems. Responsibilities include designing components, performing analysis, planning/executing tests, and working with vendors and manufacturing teams.

What you'd actually do

  1. Design components, subassemblies, and systems
  2. Perform analysis (models/simulation) to support design decisions
  3. Plan/execute development tests to support design decisions
  4. Work with external vendors and internal manufacturing/fabrication teams to build hardware
  5. Work with the testing team to support verification testing of hardware

Skills

Required

  • B.S. or higher in mechanical engineering
  • 2+ years of industry work experience
  • Proficiency with professional 3D modeling software, preferably with Catia 3D Experience
  • Proficiency in mechanical design, materials selection, kinematics, and analysis
  • Excellent problem solving and communication skills
  • Strong analytical background – able to use first principles to drive/inform design

Nice to have

  • M.S./Ph.D. in a relevant field of study
  • 5+ years of working experience in automotive or aerospace industry
  • Experience with Dassault Systemes CAD, specifically using generative shape design, part design, and assembly design
  • Experience with finite element tools (Abaqus)
  • Direct battery engineering experience
