The Principal Scientist will join an Interventional Oncology team at Johnson & Johnson, focusing on the discovery of new pathways and modalities for cancer therapy. This role involves evaluating and understanding new drug concepts, leading efforts to identify and validate novel targets, and supporting the drug discovery process through in vitro and in vivo experiments. Responsibilities include project leadership, assay development, supervision of lab staff, designing and coordinating research, and collaborating with academic investigators. The scientist will analyze and present preclinical data to support clinical progression and ensure compliance with scientific, quality, and regulatory standards.

What you'd actually do

  1. Leading efforts to identify, validate and generate data packages to bring novel targets into the discovery portfolio – Leading Biology team in preparation for portfolio-entry.
  2. Maintaining comprehensive understanding of target biology to enable the drug discovery process.
  3. (Co-) Leading the project core team by defining strategy, identifying risks and mitigations and presenting to governance bodies - Act as matrix leader in cross-functional partnership with DPDS to ensure project progression.
  4. Developing, designing and coordinating novel research to support target validation of current and future targets.
  5. Interacting with preclinical and clinical teams, development and commercial teams in presenting and explaining the impact of the preclinical data packages driving project strategy.

Skills

Required

  • PhD degree in Life Sciences (Pharmacology, Immunology or Oncology)
  • minimum of 5 to 7 years of relevant laboratory-based experience (tumor-inflammation) in industry/biotech or an academic setting
  • Demonstrated high level of scientific competence across the immune-oncology field and the drug discovery process
