Pre-production Controls Development Engineer

Ford Ford · Auto · Dearborn, MI +1 · PD Operations and Quality

Develops control functionality for Pre-Program Motion (PT/Chassis) control technology, including new control system requirements, algorithms, systems design, and coding. Works with partners to understand needs, creates milestone deliverables, develops prototype models, simulations, and data analysis. Writes rapid prototype code and makes builds for testing new control systems in SIL/HIL/Vehicle.

What you'd actually do

  1. Work with our partners in calibration, engine, transmissions/driveline, emissions development, and similar to understand the needs and form the detailed assumptions for the control system technology being requested.
  2. Create and deliver required milestone deliverables for both and as well as designs and support for any X-phase prototypes.
  3. Develop prototype models, simulations and data analysis in support of any new technology design using standard tools and strong first principle engineering analysis.
  4. Work in a matched pair sense with R&A engineers who are developing and CR/AR technology and understand the development path, timing and support required for these projects with the Product Development controls teams and manage the interface.
  5. Identify Technology gaps (new requested major functions/technology) that require development as they are underdeveloped or not already part of any existing development workstream.
