Northrop Grumman is seeking a Principal or Sr. Principal Survivability Engineer to enhance the survivability of defense systems using advanced materials and processes. This role involves applying principles of chemistry, physics, and material science to investigate material issues, optimize performance, and ensure integration of survivability features. Responsibilities include leveraging classified technology to minimize aircraft detectability, using analysis codes for performance prediction and validation, and collaborating within an Integrated Product Team.

What you'd actually do

  1. Apply principles of chemistry, physics, and material science to investigate material issues and provide solutions within the Survivability discipline.
  2. Analyze, research, and develop materials and their related application processes that optimize performance in structures, systems, and subsystems.
  3. Leverage the latest classified technology to minimize the detectability of aircraft across electromagnetic, infrared, visual, and acoustic spectrums.
  4. Use proprietary analysis codes to forecast design performance and validate predictions through physical model testing.
  5. Balance the optimization of stealth properties with requirements from other engineering disciplines and ensure compliance with survivability requirements during the design process.

Skills

Required

  • Bachelor of Science degree in STEM discipline
  • 5 years of related professional/military experience in Engineering (Principal)
  • 8 years of related professional/military experience in Engineering (Sr. Principal)
  • Current active U.S. Government in-scope DoD Secret security clearance or higher
  • Ability to obtain and maintain SAP/SAR clearance
  • Ability to obtain and maintain the final adjudicated DoD Top Secret clearance and any program access(es) required for the position
  • Significant experience in Low Observable Materials and Processes (LO M&P)
  • Applying, evaluating, and optimizing materials for survivability applications
  • Comprehension of materials selection for electromagnetic performance
  • Understanding the balance with structural integrity
  • Proficiency in materials testing methods (mechanical, thermal, environmental, EM properties)
  • Interpreting lab results
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze materials issues
  • Conduct root cause analysis of failures
  • Provide effective solutions for material performance in aerospace applications
  • Skilled in creating process specifications
  • Skilled in creating test plans
