Principal Associate, Underwriting, Portfolio, and Loan Management

This role is focused on the management and risk assessment of a portfolio of debt and equity investments, primarily in affordable housing. Responsibilities include asset surveillance, risk mitigation, construction and lease-up oversight, data integrity, stakeholder management, and process innovation. It requires experience in asset management, portfolio management, or commercial credit analysis, with a preference for experience in affordable housing or LIHTC finance.

What you'd actually do

  1. Asset Surveillance: Proactively manage a portfolio of LIHTC equity and debt facilities, ensuring all financial covenants, reporting requirements, and compliance milestones are met. Lead the preparation of annual reviews, quarterly risk rating reviews and support preparation of periodic portfolio reviews.
  2. Risk Mitigation: Conduct regular financial statement analysis and site inspections; identify deteriorating credit trends or construction delays and develop mitigation strategies.
  3. Construction & Lease-up Oversight: Approve draws, construction budgets, and lien waivers. Partner with third-party consultants to ensure projects remain on schedule and within budget.
  4. Data Integrity & Reporting: Ensure all internal systems accurately reflect the current risk profile of the portfolio.
  5. Stakeholder Management: Collaborate and act as the point of contact for borrowers, syndicators and internal stakeholders.

Skills

Required

  • High School Diploma, GED, or Equivalent Certification.
  • At least 2 years of experience in Asset Management, Portfolio Management, or Commercial Credit Analysis.

Nice to have

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Accounting, Real Estate, or a related field.
  • Experience managing construction-to-permanent loan conversions.
  • 2+ years of experience specifically within Affordable Housing, LIHTC, or Commercial Real Estate Finance.
  • Strong proficiency in financial modeling and interpreting complex partnership agreements.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence internal partners and external clients through confident, data-driven communication.
