Northrop Grumman is seeking an Avionics Engineer to research, design, develop, and test electronic equipment and avionics systems for their Business Unit. Responsibilities include integration and testing of mission equipment, managing suppliers, defining test requirements, and preparing procurement documents. The role requires experience with flight avionics hardware, networking standards, and digital computer architecture, along with a Secret clearance.

What you'd actually do

  1. The Integration and Test of Prime Mission Equipment (Flight Management Computers, Cockpit Avionics, Navigation Systems, Threat Detection Sensors (Passive/Active), and Mission Management Equipment) into Laboratories and on Aircraft for Ground Support Testing
  2. Manage suppliers, review and analysis of supplier design data, definition of functional test requirements including acceptance, qualification, and system integration, and support test execution
  3. The candidate will be capable of the creation of detailed equipment requirements in Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems specification documents format for product procurement
  4. Prepare NGAS procurement documents such as Price and Delivery Information Request (PDIR), Source Control Drawings (SCD) and Supplier Statements of Work (SSOW) in support of procurement processes
  5. The support of Hardware Component analysis as it pertains to product maintainability, reliability, safety and diminishing material sources

Skills

Required

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) discipline
  • hardware integration and engineering experience
  • fundamentals of Flight Avionics hardware
  • associated elements and networking standards/protocols (e.g. 1553, Ethernet, RS-232, ARINC-429)
  • Digital Computer architecture and associated elements: single board computers, networking components, Field Programmable Gate Arrays (FPGA), and Network Attached Storage (NAS) solutions
  • U.S. Government Secret Clearance

Nice to have

  • Agile Scrum and Jira Experience
  • Trade studies, documenting subsystem architectures, analyzing performance, and evaluating Technology Readiness Level (TRL) with regard to supplier current and future products offerings
  • Building supplier evaluation criteria and experience in conducting technical evaluations, documenting results and selection
  • Experience using Diagnostic tools (Linux SW, PUTTY, Tera-term) to conduct analysis of Flight Avionics Hardware Failures
  • Experience with Aircraft Navigation and Flight Plans. Experience with how a Flight Navigation solution / GPS is integrated into an Aircraft
  • Experience with integration of COTS electronics and Board Support Package (BSP) designs into military systems
  • Experience with authentication and data encryption methods, to include securing communications at either the data-link or network layer
  • Have the ability to get a TS/SCI clear
