Principal, Data Analyst (data Ventures)

This role focuses on managing and optimizing technical and business data assets within Walmart Data Ventures, ensuring data accuracy, consistency, and accessibility. Responsibilities include analyzing use cases, identifying data sources, partnering on data structure design, implementing data quality rules, building automated frameworks, and guiding stakeholders on data governance and regulatory compliance. The role requires strong SQL, experience with data platforms and visualization tools, and familiarity with ETL, cloud, and big data tools.

What you'd actually do

  1. Analyze product use cases, identify the right data sources, and assess data for accuracy, completeness, and consistency.
  2. Partner with data modelers to design data structures, mappings, and transformations that align with business requirements, and reconcile data after implementation.
  3. Collaborate with Data Stewards and Security teams to uphold consistent data policies and standards across the organization.
  4. Work with the data quality team to define and implement data quality rules.
  5. Build automated, reusable frameworks and reports or dashboards using Python, SQL, and related tools to support analysis and reconciliation.

Skills

Required

  • Strong SQL skills, including experience with stored procedures, nested queries, and advanced functions.
  • Experience working with databases, data warehouses, or big data platforms such as SQL Server, Oracle, Teradata, Hive, Presto, BigQuery, Redshift, Synapse, or Snowflake.
  • Experience with data visualization tools such as Power BI, Tableau, or similar platforms.
  • Familiarity with ETL, cloud, and big data tools such as Informatica, SSIS, Spark, Hive, or Airflow.
  • Proficiency in Python or a similar object-oriented programming language.
  • Strong understanding of data governance, data management best practices, and tools such as Collibra, data catalogs, lineage, and metadata management.
  • Familiarity with software product lifecycles, data architecture, and agile ways of working.
  • Knowledge of business domains such as Finance, Supply Chain, Sales, or Marketing, including relevant metrics and performance indicators.
  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Engineering, Statistics, Economics, Analytics, Mathematics, Arts, Finance or related field and 4 years' experience in data analysis, data science, statistics, or related field OR Master's degree in Business, Engineering, Statistics, Economics, Analytics, Mathematics, Co
