Principal Economist, Ads Econ

Amazon Amazon · Big Tech · Seattle, WA · Economics

This role focuses on developing and applying advanced econometric and machine learning models for Amazon's advertising products. The primary responsibilities include designing and analyzing large-scale experiments, developing novel causal inference methodologies for attribution and incrementality measurement, inventing optimization frameworks for bidding and targeting strategies, and defining the science roadmap for ads measurement and optimization. The role also involves building structural and reduced-form models to quantify advertising impact on consumer behavior and partnering with engineering teams to operationalize these models into production systems. The position requires a PhD in a quantitative field, extensive industry experience, and proficiency in big data and machine learning.

What you'd actually do

  1. Lead the design and analysis of large-scale experiments to measure advertising effectiveness across Amazon's advertising products
  2. Develop novel causal inference and econometric methodologies to solve attribution and incrementality measurement challenges at scale
  3. Invent new optimization frameworks that translate measurement insights into actionable bidding, targeting, and budget allocation strategies for advertisers
  4. Define the long-term science roadmap for ads measurement and optimization, identifying high-impact research directions and driving alignment across engineering, product, and science teams
  5. Build and refine structural and reduced-form models that quantify the causal impact of advertising on consumer behavior, sales, and brand outcomes
