Principal Engineer to own the architecture and evolution of a multi-tenant SaaS cloud platform, focusing on control plane and data plane systems, distributed systems, and cloud infrastructure. The role involves designing, building, and mentoring, with a strong emphasis on using AI coding assistants for infrastructure tasks.

What you'd actually do

  1. Own end-to-end architecture for the cloud platform, spanning control plane and data plane
  2. Design multi-tenant systems with strong isolation, security, and resource governance
  3. Define platform abstractions that work across hybrid environments AWS, GCP, Azure, and on-premises
  4. Architect and build systems for tenant provisioning, lifecycle management, and configuration
  5. Design data path components for high-throughput, low-latency workloads

Skills

Required

  • multi-tenant SaaS platforms
  • control plane / data plane separation
  • cluster management (Kubernetes operators, CRDs, admission webhooks, RBAC, namespace isolation)
  • configuration management at scale (GitOps, feature flags)
  • AWS, GCP, or Azure expertise
  • Infrastructure as Code (Terraform/Pulumi)
  • service mesh technologies (Istio, Linkerd, Envoy)
  • distributed systems fundamentals
  • observability (OpenTelemetry, Prometheus, Grafana)
  • zero-trust security
  • secrets management (Vault, AWS Secrets Manager)
  • compliance frameworks (SOC 2, ISO 27001, GDPR)

Nice to have

  • FinOps practices
  • observability platforms
  • open-source infrastructure contributions

What the JD emphasized

  • Hands-on experience building or operating multi-tenant SaaS platforms at scale
  • Proven experience with control plane / data plane separation and cluster management
  • Deep expertise in at least two of AWS, GCP, or Azure
  • Strong grasp of distributed systems fundamentals
  • Understanding of zero-trust security, secrets management (Vault, AWS Secrets Manager), and compliance frameworks (SOC 2, ISO 27001, GDPR) at the infrastructure level
