Principal Engineer, Embedded Software Architecture for Wayve's Embodied AI technology in autonomous driving. This role defines and leads the architecture of the vehicle software platform, powering AI systems for autonomy. It involves working with advanced embedded compute platforms, defining OS, middleware, and HALs for scalable, efficient, and safe vehicle software. The role requires deep technical expertise in embedded systems, C/C++, system performance analysis, and influencing technical direction across teams and external partners.

What you'd actually do

  1. Design and evolve the embedded software architecture for Wayve’s next-generation autonomy platform.
  2. Develop and guide hands-on prototypes and reference implementations that demonstrate key architectural decisions.
  3. Analyze and optimize system performance, reliability, and scalability across the embedded stack.
  4. Collaborate cross-functionally with internal AI, platform, and vehicle systems teams, and with external partners including NVIDIA, Qualcomm, and OEMs.
  5. Drive the adoption of modern development practices, tools, and standards for high-assurance embedded software.

Skills

Required

  • 15+ years in software and systems engineering
  • strong expertise in embedded systems for robotics, automotive, or similar domains
  • Demonstrated hands-on software development experience in C/C++
  • Proven ability to deliver large-scale systems to production
  • deep involvement in architecture, design, and code
  • Expertise in system performance analysis, optimization, and debugging
  • Experience leading through technical influence
  • Ability to represent the company in external technical discussions with OEMs, chip vendors, and partners

Nice to have

  • familiarity in Python or Rust
