Northrop Grumman is seeking a Lead Principal Energetics Engineer for their Rocket Motor Nozzle Manufacturing team in Promontory, Utah. The role involves leading special projects, developing manufacturing processes, mentoring engineers, supporting manufacturing operations (composites, machining, rubber layup, molding, bonding, coatings, assemblies), performing root cause analysis for defects, and troubleshooting production issues. Requires a B.S. in Engineering with 5 years of experience (or Master's with 3 years), leadership experience, and an active U.S. Secret security clearance.

What you'd actually do

  1. Lead special projects and investigations with little requirement definition including developing action plans, delegating tasks, tracking progress, ensuring completion on time and on budget
  2. Lead cross-discipline engineering team in nozzle assembly development projects
  3. Developing and continuously improving manufacturing processes
  4. Mentoring earlier career engineers on material and process
  5. Supporting manufacturing operations including composites manufacturing, machining, rubber layup and molding, chemical bonding, primers and coatings, and complex assemblies

Skills

Required

  • B.S. degree in Mechanical, Chemical, or Aerospace Engineering or related engineering degree with 5 years’ experience /or 3 years of experience with a master's degree
  • Experience leading a team or project
  • Basic Computer skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Experience writing electronic shop instructions
  • Must have an active U.S. Government Secret security Clearance

Nice to have

  • Experience with Manufacturing Planning and MRP software
  • Experience with PLM Software (Teamcenter, Windchill, etc.)
  • Experience with using 3D modeling software (Solidworks, NX, Pro-E, etc.)
  • Experience working with Aerospace standards and the implementation of standards across cross-functional teams
  • Experience with chemical and mechanical bonding processes—rubber and composite molding processes
