Northrop Grumman is seeking a Principal Energetics Engineer for their Rocket Motor Nozzle Manufacturing team in Promontory, Utah. The role involves developing and improving manufacturing processes for composites, machining, rubber, chemical bonding, primers, coatings, and assemblies. Responsibilities include process improvement, root cause analysis, troubleshooting, and leading tooling implementation. Requires a BS in Engineering with 5 years of experience (or MS with 3 years), ability to obtain a Secret clearance, and experience with relevant materials and manufacturing techniques. Experience with Lean Manufacturing, GD&T, 3D modeling, SPC, and aerospace standards is preferred.

What you'd actually do

  1. Developing and continuously improving manufacturing processes
  2. Supporting manufacturing operations including composites manufacturing, machining, rubber layup and molding, chemical bonding, primers and coatings, and complex assemblies
  3. Performing cause and corrective action investigations to permanently eliminate defects using root cause analysis tools
  4. Authoring, updating and reviewing shop floor planning
  5. Leading design, checkout, qualification and implementation of new or modified tooling or equipment

Skills

Required

  • B.S. degree in Mechanical, Chemical, or Aerospace Engineering or related engineering degree with 5 years’ experience /or 3 years of experience with a master's degree.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government Secret clearance
  • Basic Computer skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Experience writing electronic shop instructions
  • Self-Starter that takes initiative to complete tasks and assignments with little supervision
  • Experience with thermal and electrical protection materials
  • Experience working with rubbers, composites, metals, adhesives, primers, and coatings
  • Good problem-solving skills and strong oral and written communication skills
  • Good organization and multi-tasking skills
  • Interpreting blueprints and specifications, GD&T standards
  • Proficient in 3D modeling software
  • Strong inter-personal and Customer Service Skills
  • Statistical Process Controls (SPC)

  • Experience with Manufacturing Planning and MRP software
  • Experience with PLM Software (Teamcenter, Windchill, etc.)
