Principal Engineer Facilities role at Northrop Grumman, responsible for leading the execution and management of facilities projects, including designing, maintaining, and optimizing electrical and mechanical systems. This involves overseeing installation, maintenance, and repair of critical infrastructure like HVAC, plumbing, and power distribution, while ensuring operational efficiency, safety, and regulatory compliance. The role requires problem-solving, strategic planning for maintenance and equipment replacement, data analysis, and collaboration with cross-functional teams and external partners. Requires a STEM degree with significant facilities experience, project management skills, and knowledge of relevant codes and regulations.

What you'd actually do

  1. Responsible for overseeing the maintenance, operation, repairs, and planning of the facilities mechanical infrastructure to ensure maximum safety and building uptime
  2. Identify and implement preventative and predictive maintenance plans of the facilities infrastructure, equipment and buildings to achieve lowest cost of ownership while maintaining reliability
  3. Develop strategic replacement plans for outdated equipment to address excessive maintenance, energy efficiency and establish consistency of equipment utilized across the site
  4. Perform problem solving, troubleshooting, and root cause analysis
  5. Prepare training documents and operational SOPs pertaining to facility and processes and equipment

Skills

Required

  • Bachelor’s Degree in STEM with 5+ years of related facilities experience or 3+ years with MS Degree in STEM
  • Experience supporting a large Manufacturing Facility
  • Demonstrated ability to Interpret building and utility drawings and make the revisions as required
  • Experience developing and updating Preventive and Predictive maintenance initiatives
  • Experience in Project Management & general Construction processes
  • Proficient with AutoCAD & Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Microsoft Project)
  • Must be a US citizen
  • Ability to work both independently and in a team environment
  • Good analytical ability to recognize deviations from accepted practice
  • Ability to interact with all levels of the organization and external representatives
  • Strong oral and written communication skills with strong interpersonal skills and problem solving ability
  • Ability to update As-Built drawings by performing site visits and field measurements as needed.
  • May require walking long distances, climbing stairs, visiting non-air-conditioned spaces, and/or standing for long periods of time
  • Ability to advocate a safe, secure and ethical working environment that maintains compliance with federal, state and local government regulations (OSHA, EPA, ISO, DOT, permits, etc.) in addition to company policies

Nice to have

  • 7 years of experience in facility engineering with a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • Experience with management of design contracts and/or design reviews
  • Experience in developing project statements of work and coordinating with multiple stakeholders
  • Demonstrated knowledge of California Code and Regulatory requirements
  • Experience using a CMMS, i.e., Maintenance Connection
  • Experience using BIM Software - Revit
