Principal Engineer Hardware - Rf & Lab Operations

Northrop Grumman Northrop Grumman · Aerospace · Colorado Springs, CO +1 · Material/Process

Principal Engineer Hardware - RF & Lab Operations role at Northrop Grumman, focusing on researching, designing, and standing up RF, analog, and digital hardware components for the DARC program. Responsibilities include defining hardware design infrastructure, developing engineering drawings, managing the hardware baseline, determining component specifications, supporting RF testing, and integrating/troubleshooting hardware in lab environments. Requires a Secret security clearance and experience with RF devices, compute components, and electromechanical design for RF/Radar applications.

What you'd actually do

  1. Collaboratively define and document the analog hardware design support infrastructure design.
  2. Develop engineering drawings and associated bill of materials.
  3. Manage and control the HW engineering baseline (Change requests, redlines, document as built).
  4. Determine HW component system specifications.
  5. Determine Infrastructure requirements (Power, Heating and Cooling).

Skills

Required

  • Bachelor of Science Degree with a minimum of 5 years relevant experience; 3 years with a Master's; 1 years with a PhD. An additional 4 years of experience in lieu of a bachelor’s degree.
  • Secret security clearance
  • requirements decomposition and derivation down to hardware subsystem level and hardware component level specifications
  • engineering drawings and baseline management processes
  • procurement process
  • cable management and various cable types typical for IT environments (Ethernet, Power, Fiber)
  • optimize HW component placement within environments considering airflow, cable management, tip hazards, and density
  • RF devices, connectors, cabling, test equipment
  • compute components (memory, SSD, power supplies, cabling, motherboards)
  • electromechanical or electronics cable design for RF/Radar applications
  • RF test equipment, such as oscilloscopes, power meter, spectrum analyzer, signal generator, and network analyzer
  • Atlassian tool sets (JIRA, Confluence)

Nice to have

  • Teamcenter or similar Product Lifecycle Management System experience
  • Model Based Systems Engineering principles
  • Model Based Systems Engineering tools such as CAMEO
  • integrating a broad set of commercial hardware system components (i.e., servers, switches, routers, network-attached (storage))
  • Current or previous certification to IPC standards (610x, 620x J-STD)

What the JD emphasized

  • Must have an active U.S. Government Secret security clearance at time of application, current and within scope.
