Principal Engineer – One Shots

Principal Engineer role at RTX focused on the development and technical oversight of "one shot devices" within the Energetics and Propulsion Department. Responsibilities include applying scientific principles to product development, managing subcontractors and suppliers, interfacing with customers, overseeing battery development, supporting failure analysis, presenting designs, and contributing to proposals and technology roadmaps. Requires a STEM degree with significant experience in solid propulsion systems and a transferable U.S. government security clearance.

What you'd actually do

  1. Apply and/or develop advanced one shot devices technologies using scientific principles, theories and concepts implementation into products
  2. Provide technical oversight to various subcontractors
  3. Manage subcontract suppliers to specify and deliver required subsystem components on schedule and on budget
  4. Frequently interface with the customer to identify user needs
  5. Technical oversight of our power source batteries development programs

Skills

Required

  • Bachelor in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 8 years of prior relevant experience or 12 years of experience without a degree
  • Experience in development of solid propulsion systems
  • Active and transferable U.S. government issued security clearance

Nice to have

  • Ten (10) or more years of directly related experience in propulsive technology and its application to solid or liquid, and/or mono propellant propulsion systems
  • Systems knowledge to assure full development of propulsion requirements and dissemination and flow down to subcomponent levels
  • Project engineering skills and experience using Earned Value Management System
  • Demonstrated success as a proposal/cost account manager as well as project/team leader
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and lead collaborative efforts with other technical disciplines including structural, thermal, aerodynamics and low observables
  • Willingness to travel, including internationally, to provide supplier support
  • Supplier collaboration experience and oversight generating specifications and statements of work (SOW)
  • Working knowledge or experience with either missile design or development, production support and integration
  • Experience with DoD customers and/or associated contractor executives and technical leadership
