Northrop Grumman is seeking a Principal Engineer/Senior Principal Engineer - Survivability to join their team in Melbourne, Florida. The role focuses on enhancing the survivability of defense systems, specifically air-based systems, through the application of advanced materials and processes. Key responsibilities include developing and integrating technology to reduce aircraft detectability in the electromagnetic spectrum, developing predictive analysis codes, building and testing physical models, designing test equipment, and developing specialty materials. Experience with Radar Cross Section (RCS) Analysis is a key area of focus. The position requires a Secret security clearance.

What you'd actually do

  1. Develops and integrates advanced technology to reduce the detectability of aircraft in the electromagnetic spectrum
  2. Develops and implements predictive analysis codes; builds and tests physical models; designs, develops, and builds test and verification equipment; and develops, tests, and integrates specialty materials
  3. Works closely with engineers of other disciplines to optimize the integration of this technology on existing and future aircraft

Skills

Required

  • Bachelor's Degree in STEM and 5 years of related engineering experience (Principal) OR Master's Degree and 3 years (Principal) OR Bachelor's Degree in STEM and 8 years (Senior Principal) OR Master's Degree and 6 years (Senior Principal) OR PhD and 4 years (Senior Principal)
  • Applied electromagnetics and/or aircraft survivability; or comprehensive understanding of electromagnetic energy transmission through space and within materials
  • Experience in one or more CAD software solutions such as CATIA, Unigraphics, or NX
  • Ability to transfer and maintain the final adjudicated U.S. Government Secret Security Clearance

Nice to have

  • Experience in signature integration, RCS design, analysis, and testing
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to use CAE and/or FEA tools (i.e. FMS, Patran, Cubit, etc.)
  • Proven experience with 3D Method of Moments (MoM) such as SENTRi and 3D Physical Optics (PO) codes such as Xpatch
  • Programming experience in C++, MATLAB, Python, or other highly technical languages
  • Knowledge and ability with RCS data processing tools, such as Knowbell, Saber, or Pioneer
  • An active U.S. Government issued Top Secret security clearance and/or previous SAP/SAR clearance
