The Principal Engineer Software will be responsible for the full lifecycle design, implementation, and unit testing of software, with a focus on simulation applications. This role requires a strong understanding of the software development lifecycle, automated testing, and the ability to work with large datasets in a defense context. The candidate must possess a Secret security clearance.

What you'd actually do

  1. Full lifecycle design, implementation, and unit testing of software.
  2. Apply extensive technical expertise and has full knowledge of other related disciplines.
  3. Provide technical solutions to a wide range of complex difficult problems that are imaginative, thorough, practicable, and consistent with programs objectives.
  4. In depth understanding and wide application of technical principle, theories, and concepts in the field listed under the basic qualifications.
  5. Design, develop, document, test and debug simulation applications software and systems that contain logical and mathematical solutions.

Skills

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) discipline and 5 years of experience in software engineering OR a Master’s degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) discipline and 3 years of experience in software engineering
  • US citizen with ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret level security clearance
  • Interim clearance is required to start
  • Development experience developing software in a Linux and Windows environment
  • Development experience with debugging software in both the desktop and target environments
  • Experience with designing, managing, querying, and maintaining databases
  • Experience with UI development
  • Experience with configuration management using industry standard tools and processes
  • Development experience with software and system test
  • Experience with Agile software development
  • Development experience with C/C++ or other OOP languages

Nice to have

  • Familiarity with the Atlassian tool suite with add-ons like Git and Confluence
  • Familiarity with the Agile software development process
  • Full software development life cycle experience
  • Rhapsody and/or Cameo UML Modeling experience
  • Experience with Oracle databases
  • Experience with formal software test and Weapon System evaluations
  • US citizen with a current in scope DoD secret or higher clearance
  • Currently the holder of a special program access
