Principal Engineer Supplier Quality

Experienced Supplier Quality Engineer needed for Northrop Grumman's Mesa, Arizona facility, focusing on mechanical and electrical/electronic components. Responsibilities include reviewing supplier corrective actions, leading audits, approving First Article Inspection Reports (FAIRs), resolving receiving inspection issues, managing source inspections, supporting New Product Introduction (NPI), ensuring QMS compliance, and analyzing supplier performance. Requires a Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related STEM field, 5+ years of quality engineering experience in manufacturing, and strong knowledge of supplier quality, RCCA, GD&T, AS9100/ISO 9001, and Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA).

What you'd actually do

  1. Responsible for multiple components commodities.
  2. RCCA (Root Cause and Corrective Action) review, approval, and vetting for all NC’s written against your suppliers
  3. Leads audits, continuous improvement activities and periodic performance reviews at component suppliers
  4. FAIR (First Article Inspection Report) review and approval for FAIR’s written by your suppliers using Net Inspect
  5. Resolve issues with suppliers arising out of Receiving Inspection, including but not limited to paperwork issues, dimensional issues, packaging issues and other part defects

Skills

Required

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or related STEM field
  • 5+ years of quality engineering experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Supplier quality engineering experience
  • 8D process for root cause determination and corrective actions
  • Statistical analysis ability
  • GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing) requirements
  • AS9100 or ISO 9001 Quality Management Systems
  • Design Failure Mode Effect Analysis (DFMEA)
  • Process Failure Mode Effect Analysis (PFMEA)
  • MS Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)

Nice to have

  • Experience with Special Processes (heat‑treat, coating, etc.) per NADCAP requirements
  • Experience with PCB, PCBA and Electrical/Electronic components
  • IPC-A-610 and IPC-A-600 Standards
  • Six Sigma Green or Black belt formal certification
  • ASQ Quality Engineer Certification (CQE)
