Mechanical Engineer role focused on the design, development, and deployment of launch-equipment hardware and systems for the U.S. Air Force Sentinel program. Responsibilities include CAD modeling, analysis, and supporting all phases of the systems lifecycle. Requires a Secret security clearance and experience with mechanical systems design.

What you'd actually do

  1. Primary role is to serve as a mechanical designer for mechanical systems (mechanisms) design on a major Northrop Grumman Defense Systems program
  2. Research, plan, design, and develop mechanical/aerospace products for aircraft, spacecraft, launch vehicles, missiles, ground vehicles and associated ground and test equipment
  3. Develop CAD models and 3D model based drawings using Siemens NX and Team Center
  4. Verify specifications and designs through modeling and simulation, test data processing, and performance analysis
  5. Support all phases of the systems lifecycle including design, drawings, fabrication, test, installation, operation and maintenance

Skills

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in a STEM field
  • 5+ years of experience with CAD modeling (Siemens NX preferred)
  • 5+ Experience in mechanical engineering that includes a background in mechanical systems (mechanisms preferred)
  • Familiar with common engineering standards (ISO, ASME, Mil Spec, NAS, etc.)
  • Ability to operate independently with minimal supervision, function in a dynamic environment, and be flexible to changing direction
  • Proficient written and verbal communication skills when conveying technical content
  • Knowledge of GD&T, materials selection, and manufacturing processes
  • Demonstrated ability to lead design teams and drive technical decisions
  • active U.S. Government DoD Secret security clearance

Nice to have

  • Experience with Team Center (CPLM) and the Product Definition Package (PDP) release process
  • Experience with the ASME Y14.X suite of engineering drawing standards
  • Experience with requirements management and model-based systems engineering (MBSE) principles
  • Experience with ICBMs or launch equipment systems
  • Experience performing dynamic and static analysis (NX Motion or ANSYS preferred)
  • Proficiency in DOORS, CAMEO, Jira and Confluence
  • Experience in managing or leading an interdisciplinary engineering team from concept creation through test and verification
  • Experience as a Control Account Management (CAM)
