Principal Metrology Engineer

Northrop Grumman Northrop Grumman · Aerospace · Waynesboro, VA +1 · Material/Process

Principal Metrology Engineer at Northrop Grumman responsible for technical leadership in a laboratory setting, supporting calibration systems and activities. The role involves developing calibration methods, evaluating measurement uncertainty, and ensuring the reliability of measurement processes for physical and chemical measures. Requires a STEM degree and significant experience in mechanical and electrical metrology, with a focus on standards development and problem-solving.

What you'd actually do

  1. Provide technical leadership for the Laboratory (with the Lead Metrologist)
  2. Support calibration systems and activities involving the traceable and systematic test and measurement characteristics such as length, mass, time, temperature, electric current, luminous intensity, and derived units of physical or chemical measure
  3. Identify the magnitude of error sources contributing to uncertainty of results to determine reliability of measurement process in quantitative terms
  4. Develop calibration methods and techniques based on principles of measurement science, technical analysis of measurement problems, and accuracy and precision requirements
  5. Develop and evaluate metrology calibration systems that measure characteristics of objects, substances, or phenomena, such as length, mass, time, temperature, electric current, luminous intensity, and derived units of physical or chemical measure
