Principal Optical Engineer at RTX (Collins Aerospace) focusing on the design, analysis, development, integration, and testing of high-precision optical and visual display systems for aviation, spacecraft, and head-worn applications. The role involves leading system-level optical requirements, performing various analyses (tolerance, stray-light, STOP), defining testing methods, developing designs using tools like Zemax, guiding prototype development, and mentoring junior engineers. Requires a STEM degree with significant experience in optical engineering and a proven track record in product development.

What you'd actually do

  1. Lead the creation of system‑level optical requirements and ensure alignment across mechanical, electrical, and systems engineering teams
  2. Perform tolerance analysis, stray‑light analysis, STOP analysis and manufacturability reviews to ensure robust performance and smooth transitions to manufacturing
  3. Define methods for optical testing, maintenance, and repair of optical systems
  4. Document test processes, procedures, and methodologies
  5. Develop detailed optical designs using tools such as Zemax OpticStudio, and LightTools
