Northrop Grumman is seeking a Principal or Sr. Principal Data Display and Controls (DDC) Electronics Engineer to join their team in Melbourne, FL. This role involves writing and interpreting requirements, authoring design guidelines, performing technical analyses, presenting at design reviews, integrating LRUs, running tests, and leading subcontract management for requirements sell-off. The position requires experience with design, development, and integration of flight deck equipment, COTS/MIL-COTS hardware, system engineering design methods, and a Secret clearance.

What you'd actually do

  1. Write/draft, interpret, allocate, tailor, and flow down requirements to all design levels.
  2. Author design guidelines, complete technical analyses and write reports.
  3. Present material during design reviews to internal and external customers.
  4. Integrate LRUs in the Lab to include finding and fixing PARs.
  5. Run test, demonstrations, and analysis in the lab environment.

Skills

Required

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM discipline and 5 years of related engineering experience (Principal) OR 8 years (Sr. Principal)
  • Master’s degree in a STEM discipline and 3 years of related engineering experience (Principal) OR 6 years (Sr. Principal)
  • PhD in a STEM discipline and 1 year of related engineering experience (Principal) OR 4 years (Sr. Principal)
  • Experience with design, development, and integration of flight deck equipment
  • Experience in COTS / MIL-COTS hardware functional design and performance analysis
  • Experience with trade studies, documenting subsystem architectures, analyzing performance, and evaluating Technology Readiness Level (TRL)
  • Knowledge of system engineering design methods, including requirements analysis and flow-down, specification derivation and interface control documentation
  • Ability to transfer and maintain the final adjudicated Secret clearance and any Special Program Access(es)

Nice to have

  • Experience in model-based systems engineering using Cameo or similar SysML tools
  • Experience with Military Navigation and Navigation Aids
  • Experience with integrating Military Navigation instrumentation on aircraft and interfacing with mission software
  • Integration and/or Design experience with specific avionics systems (FMS, PFDs, CDUs, TAWS, CAS, Moving Maps, EGI)
  • Communication, Navigation, Surveillance/Air Traffic Management (CNS/ATM) experience
  • Performance Based Navigation (PBN) experience and attaining PBN certification
  • Experience designing RTCA DO-178 software standard
  • Experience designing RTCA DO-254 hardware standard
  • Experience designing to RTCA DO-200 standard
  • Experience designing RTCA DO-160 and MIL-STD-810 standards
  • Experience with MIL-STD-1553, ARINC 429 and Ethernet communication protocols
  • Experience leading/guiding teams through product definition and implementation
  • Experience communicating with and presenting to senior leadership
  • Experience collaborating on large interdisciplinary teams
  • Experience in supplier/subcontract management
  • Experience in the development of real-time embedded software
