Principal Product Design Archnitect

Microsoft Microsoft · Big Tech · Redmond, WA +1 · Product Design

This role focuses on evolving the Microsoft 365 design system for the AI era, specifically as M365 Copilot expands. The Principal Product Design Architect will explore and apply emerging AI tools within the design system workflow, prototype utilities to accelerate the design process, define how AI models interface with design libraries, and establish system architecture and lifecycle standards. The goal is to build the foundation for AI-native UX across M365 and simplify the productivity ecosystem.

What you'd actually do

  1. Explore and apply emerging AI tools (LLMs, prompting workflows, generation pipelines, evaluation loops) as part of the default design-system workflow.
  2. Prototype and build practical utilities that accelerate concept → shippable system artifacts (components, tokens, documentation, integration workflows).
  3. Define how AI models interface with Fluent libraries and foundations.
  4. Define system architecture and scalable foundations across tokens, components, documentation, and usage patterns.
  5. Establish lifecycle standards for design system assets.
