Principal R&d Electrical Engineer - Shockwave Medical

Johnson & Johnson Johnson & Johnson · Pharma · Santa Clara, CA +1

Principal R&D Electrical Engineer at Johnson & Johnson focused on developing electronic systems for medical devices, specifically Intravascular Lithotripsy (IVL) for cardiovascular disease treatment. The role involves leading technical development from concept through commercialization, including high-voltage analog, digital circuit, and programmable logic design, schematic capture, PCB layout, and system testing. Requires a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering with significant design and development experience, and experience bringing new products to market.

What you'd actually do

  1. Architect and design electronic pulse discharge systems for medical devices.
  2. Develop proof of concept designs and bench models to test these concepts in a simulated environment.
  3. Develop new and novel products based on user defined needs.
  4. Translate user needs into design inputs/product specifications.
  5. Create technical specifications from specific user requirements.

Skills

Required

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical / Electronic Engineering with 10+ years of design and development experience, or a Master’s Degree in Electrical / Electronic Engineering with 8+ years of design and development experience.
  • Experience in architecting and bringing new products to market.
  • Experience in all product design phases from concept to commercialization.
  • Extensive experience with schematic capture, and PCB layout using Altium Designer.
  • Experience with analog and digital circuit modeling tools.
  • Experience designing DC/DC and AC/DC switch mode power supplies.
  • Design experience with FPGA’s using Verilog and HVDL.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills with all levels of management and organizations.
  • Experience developing C language code for common microcontroller peripherals such as UART, SPI, I2C, GPIOs, ADCs, DACs, and other analog transducers.
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment while managing multiple priorities.
  • Ability to adapt and reprioritize to changing requirements.

Nice to have

  • Experience in the development of medical devices is a strong plus.
  • Experience with lasers and pulse discharge systems a plus.
  • Experience designing soft core processors in programmable logic devices is a plus.
