Principal Scientist, Discovery Immunology

Johnson & Johnson Johnson & Johnson · Pharma · Spring House, PA +1

Seeking a Principal Scientist with expertise in lipid nanoparticle (LNP)-based therapies for autoimmune disorders. The role involves leading experimental work at the bench to develop and refine early-stage assays for immune modulation using LNP technology, including in vitro and in vivo assessments. Responsibilities include protocol development, data analysis, cross-functional collaboration, and mentoring junior scientists. Requires a PhD or MS/BS in a relevant biological science with industry experience, and demonstrated knowledge of LNP technology and cell culture techniques.

What you'd actually do

  1. Lead hands-on experimental work at the bench to develop and refine early-stage assays focused on immune modulation using lipid nanoparticle (LNP) technology.
  2. Develop and optimize experimental protocols, implement precise data collection strategies, and conduct thorough statistical analyses.
  3. Collaborate across multidisciplinary teams to accelerate assay development and facilitate preclinical research objectives.
  4. Mentor and train junior scientists in experimental techniques, fostering their technical skills and professional development within a collaborative and communicative research environment.
  5. Document research in internal discovery reports, manuscripts for external publication, and other formats as required

Skills

Required

  • PhD in Immunology, Biological Sciences or Biomedical Engineering with at least 3-5 years of relevant industry experience (academic experience post-graduate also considered) OR a BS or MS in Biological Sciences, Biomedical/Immunology with 5-7 years of experience.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and hands-on experience with approaches and technologies relevant to lipid nanoparticle (LNP) therapy is required.
  • Experience with in vitro cell culture (primary cells from human, NHP and murine origin) and associated technologies of assessment of cellular and protein function (multi-color flowcytometry, MSD/Luminex, quantitative PCR etc.) is required
  • Experience with assessment of LNP technology in murine models required, in vivo techniques (rodent handling, dosing of therapeutic molecules is advantageous)
  • Strong oral, written and fit-for-purpose communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal & collaborative skills with an ability to operate as part of a team in highly interdependent environment.
  • Adaptable and responsive, and committed to completing tasks in a timely fashion
