Seeking a Principal Software Engineer to architect the next generation of Walmart's Membership Ecosystem, pivoting services towards an Agentic AI-driven future. The role involves technical leadership, strategic orchestration, deep-code mentorship, and driving engineering excellence. Responsibilities include leading the development of Agentic AI-powered applications, integrating AI tools into the SDLC, defining cost-aware architecture, ensuring security and compliance, architecting data orchestration layers, and evolving API layers. The role also emphasizes setting engineering standards, enabling rapid experimentation, and mentoring engineers.

What you'd actually do

  1. Lead the development of Agentic AI-powered applications that move beyond static logic to dynamic orchestration.
  2. Integrate modern AI tools into the SDLC to accelerate developer velocity and eliminate "toil."
  3. Define architectural standards where compute and storage costs are mapped directly to product performance and user value.
  4. Architect robust data orchestration layers that handle massive real-time events via Kafka and NoSQL, ensuring data is actionable for both business logic and AI models.
  5. Set the gold standard for engineering excellence. You foster a culture where engineers take as much pride in code efficiency and latency as they do in functionality.

Skills

Required

  • BS/MS degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related subject
  • 10+ years of professional experience in various elements of full stack software development – native mobile, web front end, back end, and hands-on coding experience in the past
  • Experience with a consumer facing app and ecommerce or retail shopping
  • Hands-on experience building scalable backend systems and platforms
  • Experienced Architect, providing solutions based on large enterprise architecture formed with microservices
  • Mastery with Java SDK, Services, and various methods of background processing
  • Experienced with NoSQL Databases. MongoDB and CosmosDB preferred
  • Experience with Apache Kafka
  • Experience working with remote data via REST, JSON, GraphQL, and the HTTP protocol
  • Experienced integrating data sources, APIs and webservices external to the enterprise infrastructure
  • Experience with analysis of memory issues such as memory leaks using memory analyzers tools (DDMS, MAT)

Nice to have

  • Experience working with an orchestration Layer and GraphQL
  • Experience operating in an Agile environment and using tracking tools like Jira
  • Experience with Google Play APIs: Maps, Location, and Cloud Messaging
  • Experience with third-party libraries and APIs
  • Working knowledge of the general mobile landscape, architectures, trends, and emerging technologies
  • Solid understanding of the full mobile development life cycle and writing readable, maintainable, performant object-oriented code
  • Experience working with Kotlin, Coroutines, MVVM, MVVM Clean, View Models, Repository Design pattern, and other architectures
