Northrop Grumman is seeking a Principal Software Engineer to support the Command and Control, Battle Management, and Communications (C2BMC) program, which is essential for missile defense operations. The role involves Java software development, systems architecture, and supporting complex problem resolution, design, development, testing, and operational integration. Requires a Secret security clearance and experience with software engineering practices.

What you'd actually do

  1. Responsible for analyzing and providing technical support for systems software products, including complex problem resolution, design, development, testing, operational integration, and user support
  2. Maintains currency, debugs, and configures related software products
  3. Works from specifications to develop or modify operating system applications
  4. Assists with the design, coding, benchmark testing, debugging, and documentation of programs
  5. Interfaces with other system support groups to resolve problems, set standards, and improve the operating system's overall efficiency

Skills

Required

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, or a related field from an accredited university, along with 5 years of experience; or a Master’s degree in a related field with 3 years of relevant work experience; or 9 years of relevant work experience may be considered as an alternative to a degree
  • current, active in-scope DoD-issued Secret security clearance
  • Java/J2EE experience or alternative OO development experience
  • Experience with software practices such as coding standards, automated testing, automated build pipelines, and configuration management
  • oral, written, and communication skills
  • ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, team environment
  • Understanding of standard systems engineering design artifacts such as Use Cases and SysML diagrams

Nice to have

  • Knowledge of Agile development methodologies
  • Experience developing enterprise applications on Linux
  • Knowledge of DevSecOps and/or build management
  • Willingness to accept unforeseen tasks
  • Familiarity with common software development and management tools such as Maven, Git/GitHub, Nexus, and Eclipse
