Northrop Grumman is seeking a Principal/Sr. Principal Digital Design Engineer to join their Mission Systems Sector in Rolling Meadows, IL. This role involves full lifecycle product development for digital hardware, including research, design, development, production, verification, and field support. Responsibilities include designing digital subsystems and circuit cards using FPGA technologies, supporting high-speed interfaces, RF and EO DSP, controls, data links, and embedded processing. The position requires a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical/Computer Engineering with relevant experience, and the ability to obtain a DoD Secret security clearance.

What you'd actually do

  1. research, design, and development of digital hardware products
  2. digital component design and analysis, modeling and simulation, and circuit level design and test
  3. design of digital subsystems and circuit cards utilizing the latest FPGA technologies
  4. support high speed interfaces, Radio Frequency (RF) and Electro-Optical (EO) DSP, controls, data links, embedded processing and interfaces
  5. translate system performance and operational specifications into hardware requirements, design, and test specifications

Skills

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering or similar engineering discipline
  • minimum 5 years of digital electronics design experience (Principal) or 8 years (Sr. Principal)
  • Digital circuit design experience, including simulation & schematic capture through test and integration
  • Hands-on prototyping and debug experience testing complex digital subsystems
  • Demonstrated ability to translate system performance and operational specifications into hardware requirements, design, and test specifications
  • Familiarity with documentation, revision control and review systems similar to DOORS, ClearCase, and ClearQuest
  • US Citizen
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret security clearance

Nice to have

  • Master's degree in a technical field
  • Working knowledge of Electronic Warfare systems
  • Recent circuit card design experience utilizing circuit-related tools including Cadence Concept, Allegro, and/or Mentor DxDesigner, Expedition
  • Working experience with ClearCase/ClearQuest and DOORS
  • Proven skills to include team leadership, communicating with all levels of an organization internally and externally, adaptable, creative, collaborative and comfortable working independently and enjoys solving difficult problems
  • Current Secret or Top-Secret Security Clearance
