Principal / Sr. Principal Modeling Simulation & Analysis Systems Engineer

Northrop Grumman Northrop Grumman · Aerospace · Los Angeles, CA +1 · Systems/Architecture/Test

This role focuses on designing, developing, and updating complex Simulink models for inertial navigation systems (INS), conducting performance analysis using simulation tools, and implementing INS algorithms. It involves collaboration with cross-functional teams, regression testing, validation against flight-test data, and staying current with modeling and simulation technologies within the defense industry.

What you'd actually do

  1. Design, develop, and continuously update complex Simulink models for inertial navigation systems (INS) to reflect the latest hardware, software, and algorithm changes, ensuring model fidelity and traceability.
  2. Conduct detailed analysis of system performance using simulation tools (MATLAB/Simulink) to identify potential improvements and verify that all system requirements are met.
  3. Develop and implement INS algorithms and integrate them into the Simulink environment, maintaining clear interfaces and version‑controlled libraries.
  4. Perform regression testing of updated Simulink models, validate results against flight‑test data, and generate quantitative reports on model accuracy and stability.
  5. Analyze simulation data to validate models and algorithms, providing actionable insights into system behavior under a wide range of operating conditions.
