Northrop Grumman is seeking a Principal Subsystems Engineer to join their Global Surveillance team in San Diego, CA. The role involves installation, integration, and troubleshooting of aviation-related subsystems, avionics systems, and test equipment. Responsibilities include system integration, test development, documentation, troubleshooting complex issues, and acting as an interface between operations and engineering. The position requires a Bachelor's degree in STEM with 5 years of experience (or Master's with 3, or PhD), systems engineering experience, experience with aviation subsystems, releasing engineering drawings, command-line OS (Linux, VXWorks), engineering change processes, and Ethernet/TCP/IP. An active Secret clearance is mandatory.

What you'd actually do

  1. System integration, test development and execution of various types of complex avionics systems
  2. Create and develop documentation for system requirements and interfaces, including system engineering drawings and diagrams
  3. Troubleshoot systems to resolve complex issues, interact and coordinate with responsible Subsystems engineers responsible for sustaining subsystems
  4. Serve as an interface between the Operations & Test organization and the engineers
  5. Ensure Subsystems performance meets specified levels

Skills

Required

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM discipline and 5 years of related engineering experience; OR a Master’s degree in a STEM discipline and 3 years of related engineering experience; OR a PhD in a STEM discipline
  • systems engineering processes experience at the sub-system, system and system-of-systems levels
  • experience with installation, integration and troubleshooting of aviation related subsystems
  • experience releasing engineering drawings
  • Experience adding command line OS like Linux or red hat or VXWorks
  • Experience taking engineering changes through boards CCB/TRB
  • Experience with Ethernet of TCP/IP
  • active U.S. Government Secret Clearance

Nice to have

  • Familiarity with Atlassian software development and collaboration tool set (Jira and Confluence)
  • Experience with concurrent hardware and software development
  • Experience with component selection for system development
