Principal Technical Strategist — Wallet, Payments, and Commerce Engineering

Apple Apple · Big Tech · New York, NY +1 · Software and Services

This role is for a Principal Technical Strategist in the Wallet, Payments, and Commerce Engineering organization at Apple. The individual will own strategic problems end-to-end, requiring deep technical understanding, strong ownership, and execution skills. Responsibilities include identifying challenges, building conviction, driving outcomes, structuring ambiguous problems, partnering with leadership, and influencing outcomes across teams. The role is hands-on and embedded within engineering, not advisory. Minimum qualifications include proven ability to operate independently on ambiguous problems, exceptional learning velocity, strong analytical rigor, experience embedded with engineering, influencing senior stakeholders, and excellent communication skills. Preferred qualifications include background in payments, digital wallets, financial services, or commerce platforms, and technical fluency.

What you'd actually do

  1. Own strategic problems end-to-end: independently identify what needs to be true, what is blocking progress, and what to do about it
  2. Need to be able to rapidly develop deep domain expertise in any portion of the stack and use that depth to make better decisions, faster
  3. Bring structure to ambiguous, cross-functional challenges where the problem statement itself is unclear or contested
  4. Operate as a trusted partner to engineering leadership — someone who can be handed a problem and trusted to come back with a well-reasoned path forward
  5. Work with partners to understand engineering constraints, business context, and market dynamics to synthesize into strategic recommendations for executives
