This role is for a Principal Tooling Design Checker at Northrop Grumman, responsible for reviewing and evaluating mechanical designs and drawings for manufacturability, completeness, and compliance with standards. The position involves developing tooling concepts and supporting Tool Engineers, requiring knowledge of material strengths, machining practices, and CAD systems.

What you'd actually do

  1. Review drawings and designs for manufacturability and completeness.
  2. Evaluate tool designs for compliance to NG standards (IPHM, HOPS), as well as industry dimension and tolerancing standards (ASME Y14.5M-2009).
  3. Evaluate design to determine manufacturability of tool design, including proper dimensioning to produce an acceptable, functional tool.
  4. Evaluate design for functionality to ensure the tool will perform per user request.
  5. Review design package for completeness

Skills

Required

  • Bachelor's degree with 5 years of professional experience OR Master's degree with 3 years of professional experience OR PhD with 1 year of professional experience
  • 5 years of experience in Mechanical design
  • Hands-on or working knowledge of Machining and/or Fabrication practices
  • Hands on knowledge of ASME Y14.5M-2009, Dimensioning and Tolerance Standard
  • Experience with NX CAD systems
