What you'd actually do

  1. Serve as a key legal advisor to our Consumer Revenue product teams, providing strategic counsel on digital goods, subscriptions and membership programs, and assistance with virtual currency, marketplace, and other features throughout the product development lifecycle
  2. Advise on consumer protection compliance for Discord's revenue products across multiple jurisdictions, including laws governing digital goods sales, subscription practices, and online marketplaces
  3. Partner cross-functionally with Product, Engineering, Marketing, Policy, and Regulatory Compliance teams to translate complex legal requirements into practical, scalable solutions that enable product innovation
  4. Develop playbooks, templates, training materials, and scalable legal processes that help product teams move quickly while maintaining compliance
  5. Monitor emerging legal and regulatory developments in digital commerce, marketplaces, and gaming economies, proactively advising on their impact to Discord's products

Skills

Required

  • J.D. from an accredited law school
  • Admission to the California Bar or eligible to register as in-house counsel with the California Bar
  • 7+ years of legal experience
  • Demonstrated experience counseling product teams on consumer protection laws, privacy, digital commerce, and/or online platforms
  • Strong business judgment
  • ability to provide practical, creative legal advice
  • Proven ability to build trusted relationships with cross-functional partners
  • communicate complex legal concepts clearly to non-legal audiences
  • Self-starter mentality
  • excellent project management skills
  • comfort operating in a fast-paced, ambiguous environment

Nice to have

  • Experience with gaming platforms, social platforms, UGC platforms, or digital marketplaces
  • Knowledge of international consumer protection frameworks (EU, UK, APAC)
  • Exposure to platform liability, intellectual property issues, or child safety regulations
  • Experience developing legal operations infrastructure (templates, playbooks, training programs)
