Product Design Engineer

Meta is seeking a Product Design Engineer to lead the design and development of hardware systems for consumer electronics, data centers, advanced robotics, and more. This role involves owning mechanical architecture, solving complex technical problems, influencing technical strategy, and mentoring engineers. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in mechanical design, a track record of delivering breakthrough products, and experience with the full product development lifecycle. While the core role is hardware engineering, there's an emphasis on integrating AI tools to optimize workflows and adhering to ethical AI practices.

What you'd actually do

  1. Own the mechanical architecture for key research initiatives and/or entire products or product families.
  2. Lead the design of critical components and full systems, solving technical problems that few others in the organization can, and ensuring robust end-to-end product development and integration
  3. Proactively identify and solve critical, long-term, and often ambiguous problems that impact strategic objectives.
  4. Influence key leaders and functional strategy, and participate in the development of the organization's technical roadmap
  5. Act as a recognized and thought leader, sought out for advice across multiple teams.

Skills

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field and/or equivalent industry experience
  • 8+ years of industry experience in mechanical design
  • Recognized expertise in a relevant technical domain
  • Demonstrated expertise across the full product development lifecycle, from architecture to high-volume manufacturing
  • Experience creating and driving technical roadmaps and contributing to organizational-level strategy
  • 10+ years of product design and development experience of handheld and/or wearable electronics for high volume manufacturing, including full systems ownership
  • Experience designing handheld and wearable electronics for high volume manufacturing
  • Experience with NX
  • Experience with products cosmetic surface treatments and interfacing with industrial design teams
  • Demonstrated experience to integrate AI tools to optimize/redesign workflows and drive measurable impact (e.g., efficiency gains, quality improvements)
  • Experience adhering to and implementing responsible, ethical AI practices (e.g., risk assessment, bias mitigation, quality and accuracy reviews)
  • Demonstrated ongoing AI skill development (e.g., prompt/context engineering, agent orchestration) and staying current with emerging AI technologies

Nice to have

  • MS or PhD in Mechanical Engineering
  • Professional working proficiency in Mandarin and/or Cantonese skills preferred due to partnerships with external clients
  • Experience designing for human factors
