Product Development Engineer responsible for the design, development, validation, and release of air induction system parts for automotive programs at Ford. This role involves meeting cost, weight, quality, performance, and timing targets, adhering to product development systems, and collaborating with various engineering and manufacturing teams.

What you'd actually do

  1. Comply with Program cost, weight, quality, performance and timing targets (Waterfall process)
  2. Understand GPDS (Global Product Development System) and create plans to deliver on time.
  3. Comply with Robustness Engineering Disciplines (Failure Mode Avoidance Tools)
  4. Knowledge and application of six sigma and 8D (Green Belt).
  5. Develop ESOW (Engineering Statement of Work), EC (Engineering concepts) and participate in the Sourcing Process (SOBA, ED&T review, piece and tooling cost review and CPA)

Skills

Required

  • BS or higher degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field
  • Strong problem-solving skills for complex issues using a data-driven approach.
  • Familiarity with Engine Air and Exhaust components, materials, and their manufacturing processes is desired.
  • The D&R Engineer is responsible for managing product release CAD and BOM structures, including assembly positioning and mass attribute analysis. This role also includes facilitating supplier data integration and developing CAD studies to support and drive design improvements.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Broad exposure to various material types (both steel and plastics).
  • Ability to work in a fluid environment when overall vehicle targets, size, appearance, and manufacturing location are not always known.
  • Microsoft Office experience
  • Effective oral and written communication skills
  • 8D and 5Why corrective action and problem solving skills

Nice to have

  • Experience with Catia V5 required; 3DX / Catia V6 and Ford Team Center.
